PFML Calculator

About this site

pfmlcalculator.com calculates what paid family and medical leave premiums cost an employer across every US state they employ people in.

Why it exists

There is no federal paid family leave program. 14 jurisdictions each run their own, and each publishes a calculator for its own program only. An employer with staff in four states has to run four separate tools and add the results up by hand — reconciling four different rates, four different splits, four different wage caps and four different definitions of a small employer as they go.

That reconciliation is the entire reason this site exists. For any single state, the agency’s own calculator is the better tool and it should rank above us. What nobody publishes is the combined number.

Who runs it

Treesera Technologies, Payroll and compliance calculators. Treesera Technologies builds and maintains multi-jurisdictional payroll calculators, including CrossStatePayroll for Australian payroll tax and PFML Calculator for US paid leave. All rate data is maintained directly against official agency sources.

What this site is not

pfmlcalculator.com is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any state agency or the U.S. government.

We do not use state seals, agency logos, or anything designed to look like a government site. The word “official” does not appear in our name, and no state name appears in the domain. If you need to file, register or appeal, you do that with the agency — every state page links directly to the right one.

How it is funded

Display advertising, and a lead-generation form shown after you already have your number, which connects employers who want help with payroll providers and benefits brokers. Where we link to a commercial product under an affiliate arrangement, that is disclosed on the page.

The calculator is free, ungated and complete, permanently. No sign-in, no email wall, no “unlock your full results.” Nothing is held back from the free version because there is no other version. The moment you have to give an email to see a number, this site is worse than the state agency’s own tool, and it deserves to lose to it.

Your payroll figures are calculated in your browser and are not transmitted to us or to anyone else. See the privacy policy.

How the numbers are maintained

Every rate comes from the administering state agency, with the date it was read shown on the page. All 14 records were last swept on August 18, 2026. Rates are re-checked every November when agencies publish the following year’s figures.

The full detail, including what we do when a figure cannot be confirmed and where the tool’s limits are, is on the methodology page. It lists the known limitations openly rather than burying them.

Found an error?

Tell us. Send the state, the figure and the agency URL that contradicts it via the contact page. A correction against a source is the most useful thing anyone can send this site.
