Privacy policy

The payroll figures and wages you type into either calculator are worked out entirely in your browser. They are never transmitted to us, never stored, and never seen by any third party. We use analytics to see which pages are visited, and we show advertising. Both of those set cookies, and in places where the law requires it we ask you first. If you submit the quote form, what you entered comes to us and is used to answer your request, and only because you ticked a box saying we could.

This is worth stating plainly because it is unusual. There is no server-side calculation on this site. The entire rules engine — every rate, every bracket, every formula — is downloaded to your device and runs there. When you type a payroll figure, a salary, or a headcount, that number is used by code running on your own computer and then discarded when you close the tab.

We do not receive it. We could not produce it if we were asked for it, because it never arrives. Nothing you enter is written to a database, logged, or sent to an analytics or advertising provider.

The one exception is entirely under your control: if you use the share or copy link, your figures are encoded into the URL in your address bar so the calculation can be reopened. Anyone you send that link to can read those figures from it. That is the trade-off for a shareable result — be deliberate about who you send it to.

A cookie is a small file a site asks your browser to keep. This site involves three kinds, and only the first is set before you make a choice.

• Strictly necessary. One entry in your browser’s local storage recording whether you accepted or rejected cookies, so we do not ask again on every page. It contains the word "accepted" or "rejected" and nothing else. It is not shared with anyone and is not used to identify you.
• Analytics. Google Analytics sets cookies to measure which pages are visited and how people arrive. These load only after you accept.
• Advertising. Google and other ad vendors set cookies to select and measure the ads you see, including personalised ads. These also load only after you accept, in regions where consent is required.

You can clear cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings, and you can block them entirely. Blocking them does not stop the calculators working — they run locally and do not depend on any cookie.

• Analytics. Google Analytics 4 records page views, approximate location at country or region level, device type and referring site, once you have accepted. Described in full under “Google Analytics” below.
• Advertising. Google and other ad vendors receive the usual information a browser sends when loading an ad — IP address, user agent, and the page being viewed — and may read or set their own cookies. Described in full under “Advertising” below.
• Search Console. Google Search Console shows which queries this site appears for. It reports aggregate data only and identifies nobody.
• Quote form submissions. If you submit the form: company name, work email, employee count, the states from your calculation, and the fact that you consented. Nothing else, and nothing is pre-filled from your calculation without you seeing it.
• Server logs. Our host records standard request logs including IP address, for security and abuse prevention. These rotate on the host’s schedule.

We do not run accounts, so there are no passwords. We do not require an email address to use the calculator. We do not sell or rent personal information to data brokers. We do not build advertising profiles ourselves, and we do not fingerprint devices.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read and which states they look up, so we know what to write and what to verify first. It records page views, the page you arrived from, approximate location at country or region level, and broad device type. It is configured with IP anonymisation, so your full IP address is not stored by Google Analytics.

It does not receive anything you type into a calculator. We have not enabled Google Signals, and we do not send user IDs, email addresses, or any other identifier that would let a visit be tied back to a person.

Analytics data is retained for 14 months, after which Google deletes it. Nothing loads until you accept — a visitor who declines makes no request to Google Analytics at all. If you would rather opt out everywhere, Google publishes a browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

This site carries display advertising, which is how it stays free to use. The disclosures below are the ones Google requires of any site running its ads, and they describe what actually happens.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or to other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

Google’s use of advertising cookies includes the DoubleClick cookie. Other third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site and set their own cookies, which we do not control.

Turning off personalised advertising

You can opt out of personalised advertising by Google at google.com/settings/ads. Turning it off does not remove advertising — you will still see ads, but they will not be selected based on your browsing history.

To opt out of personalised advertising from many vendors at once, use aboutads.info/choices (United States), youronlinechoices.eu (Europe and the UK), or the Network Advertising Initiative at optout.networkadvertising.org. Each of those pages lists the vendors participating and lets you opt out of them individually or all at once.

Where the law requires consent — the UK, the EEA and Switzerland in particular — no advertising or analytics cookie is set until you give it, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser, which makes the banner appear again.

Ad slots are reserved at fixed heights whether or not an ad loads, so blocking ads does not break the layout of any page.

The data controller is Treesera Technologies. We are the people who decide what is collected here and why.

Google acts as an independent controller for the advertising and analytics data it collects through this site. Its own privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy, and how it uses data from sites that use its services is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

California (CCPA/CPRA). California is the largest single source of visitors to this site, so this section matters. You have the right to know what personal information we have collected about you, to have it deleted, to correct it, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We collect no sensitive personal information as the CPRA defines it.

We do not sell personal information for money. However, personalised advertising counts as “sharing” under the CPRA, because information about your visit is used for cross-context behavioural advertising. You can opt out of that here by declining cookies in the banner, or at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser so the banner reappears, and by using the Google and industry opt-out links in the Advertising section above. Quote form submissions are neither sold nor shared as the CPRA defines those terms: they come to us and are used to answer the request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

EU, UK and Switzerland (GDPR). You have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting what was lawful before you withdrew it. Our lawful basis for analytics and advertising cookies is your consent; for the quote form it is also your consent; for security logging it is our legitimate interest in keeping the site available and free of abuse.

Quote-form submissions are kept for 24 months, then deleted. Analytics data is retained for 14 months and then deleted by Google. Advertising cookies expire on the schedule set by the vendor that placed them; Google documents its own in its cookie policy. Server logs rotate on our host’s schedule.

Calculator inputs are not retained for any period, because they are never received. See the section at the top of this page.

This is a tool for payroll and HR professionals. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

If this policy changes materially, the effective date at the top changes and the change is described here. Continued use after that constitutes acceptance.
